Have you ever wondered what might happen if we do not activate the airplane mode while travelling in a plane?

Some would say it will cause your plane to crash and some say it might burst your phone!! Guys it's time to burst the myth... Aeroplane mode is necessary but not activating is not dangerous as well. It will only annoy a few pilots but this is not criminal offense. 

So why it is suggested? When in plane we are approximately 10,000 ft above sea level. And when we are so far above from the ground, our phone might bounce of several towers hunting for signals at their maximum power.

This leads to interface with networks which connects the pilot with traffic control center. Suppose there are 50 people in a cabin not activated the aeroplane mode. All the devices would be trying their level best at their maximum capacity to capture signals. This would create lot of radio pollution and disturbances, which causes a major problem while communicating with aeroplane traffic control center.

In some aircrafts, they provide inflight cellular services in which there are cell stations. These are specially designed to communicate at a very low power not causing any disturbance. As Wifi signals are weaker than GSM, these are not reported to cause much disturbance.
